At Tenet, investing in future talent is about more than recruitment. It’s about creating opportunities for young people to explore engineering, develop new skills and discover the wide range of careers available within the industry.

Last week, we welcomed eight students to our Warrington office for a week of work experience, giving them a hands-on introduction to engineering and life within an engineering consultancy.

Rather than simply observing from the side lines, the students took part in a programme of practical activities designed to demonstrate the variety of disciplines that make up our business. Throughout the week they explored engineering design and 3D modelling, project management, fire safety, lighting design and even tackled an engineering-themed Minecraft challenge, encouraging teamwork, creativity and problem solving.

One of the highlights of the week was the opportunity for our own degree apprentices to take the lead in delivering many of the activities. Having recently begun their own careers, they were able to share their experiences, answer questions and provide a relatable insight into the different pathways into engineering.

The week concluded with group presentations to members of Tenet’s leadership team, where each group showcased what they had learned, reflected on their experiences and demonstrated the knowledge they had developed throughout the placement.

Providing meaningful work experience is an important part of Tenet’s commitment to developing future engineers. Young people can’t aspire to careers they don’t know exist, and opportunities like these help to broaden horizons while building confidence and understanding of the engineering profession.

We would like to thank everyone across the business who contributed their time, enthusiasm and expertise to make the week such a success. Their willingness to support the students reflects the collaborative culture that sits at the heart of Tenet.

We wish all of the students every success as they continue their studies and look forward to seeing where their engineering journeys take them.
