Tenet recently took part in the Northern Nuclear Alliance Skills & Capabilities Breakfast at Birchwood Park, bringing together representatives from industry, education and government to discuss how the region can develop the workforce needed to support the future of the nuclear sector.
Representing Tenet on the panel was HR & Early Careers Advisor Adele Rudenko, who joined speakers and panellists from across the industry to explore some of the key challenges and opportunities facing the skills landscape over the coming years.
The event focused on a range of important topics, including critical skills gaps, strengthening collaboration between employers and education providers, improving diversity within STEM careers, and creating effective pathways into engineering and technical professions.
As demand for skilled professionals continues to grow across the nuclear sector, discussions centred on the importance of engaging young people earlier, supporting apprenticeships and work experience opportunities, and ensuring that education provision remains aligned with industry needs.
For Tenet, these conversations reflect a long-standing commitment to investing in future talent. Over the past year, the company has expanded its engagement with schools and colleges through a range of initiatives, including STEM outreach activities, apprenticeship recruitment, work experience placements and the launch of our Schools Partnership Programme as part of our 20th anniversary celebrations.
Adele highlighted the important role that employers can play in inspiring the next generation, helping young people understand the wide variety of careers available within engineering and nuclear, and demonstrating that many valuable skills are transferable into the sector.
The event also reinforced the importance of collaboration across the industry. While organisations often compete for talent, there was a shared recognition that growing the overall talent pool through collective action is essential to meeting the future needs of the sector.
Reflecting on the event, Adele said:
“It was encouraging to hear such a strong focus on collaboration and creating opportunities for future generations. Developing the workforce of tomorrow requires industry, education providers and local communities to work together, and it was great to share some of the initiatives Tenet has been involved in while learning from others across the region.”
Thank you to the Northern Nuclear Alliance, Birchwood Park, Sellafield Ltd, Skills England and all those involved in organising the event for facilitating such valuable discussions.
As the nuclear sector continues to evolve, Tenet remains committed to supporting skills development, promoting STEM careers and helping create opportunities for the engineers and technical professionals of the future.
